#MYLIFEMYRULES - WEEK 3

Alvin lead us this past Sunday in a message called Rule Breaker. You missed it? No worries, check it out here at this YouTube link - https://youtu.be/Dxfjs3O6n6k  We all break the rules. We might tend to go over the speed limit at times. Using our cell phones while driving. Here is a funny one. Depending on the circumstances, like volume and number of people, singing popular songs in public might constitute copyright infringement. Back in the 90’s the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) asked the Girl Scouts to pay royalties for teaching campers the Macarena. Crazy! Right?  God, He has handed down laws to protect our freedoms, but over time those laws where added on to. Traditions and rituals where put in place, all in order to not break the laws. It became more important to live out the law then to hear what the word of God actually had to say. But God, sent His Son Jesus to show us what God is after. Jesus came to show us Gods true heart. Jesus is worried about the condition of our hearts, not how well we follow traditions and rituals. Jesus was called a rule breaker because of this. Jesus wanted to show us that it was our hearts that God was after. Not a person who just goes through the motions to abide by the laws. When we truly love God, we will deeply respect Gods laws and abide by them.

Are there man-made traditions or rituals in our lives that we elevate above what God says?
What are things in our culture that we have elevated to worship over God?
What are some of Gods rules that we cloudy up in order to justify our choices?
What are some examples of why the religious leader thought Jesus was considered a rule breaker?
